Wrap-up

The second edition of the Global Game Jam started on friday the 29th of January. We were just about finished preparing when a flood of students and developers was ready to go at the doors of the HKU in Hilversum. There seemed to be no end to the amoung of people turning up, which prepared us for the weekend to come.

The kickoff gave off a lot of energy: a full auditorium of mixed nationalities (ok, most of them Dutch) started to cheer! They listened intently to the keynotes and dove right into the team building excercises. As soon as everyone was settled with enough artists and programmers, there was time for food, brainstorming and even designing and coding. It's unbelievable how some people never need sleep! We did notice the coffee consumption go up and somewhere in the night a fire alarm went off, but let's not mention that again.

Saturday was made up of both hard work and Nerf gun battles in the hallways. Luckily we could run around like crazy on the work floor when you needed to let off steam, or build a snowman outside. Breakfast, lunch and supper was always a question of tactics, to not get into a long line of 180 hungry people. The taste was good, though! The day slowly turned into night, heading up to the last day of the event.

Sunday was the day everything had to be ready. At 3 PM, all games had to be uploaded, making the last hours crucial. Faces said "focus", energy drinks were opened, but oddly enough there did not seem to be a lot of stress. People were obviously well prepared to show their games from 3 o'clock onward and the hallways filled themselves with roaming and gaming people. The atmosphere was excellent! The jury made their rounds, and while they had very little time to see all the games, they made their choices.

Check the last update for info on photo's, video and news articles (Bashers, Control, G4me.nl, RTV Utrecht, DGS, etc.) We hope to see you all again next year, because you made it worthwhile!

NL Info: Wees erbij in 2010!

Be part of the biggest jam ever!
